The problem. A manhole serving the Tavistock Community Centre had active water inflows at both pipe laterals. At the downstream lateral, the pipe boot had let go entirely, letting groundwater and loose material into the structure; the upstream lateral was actively leaking as well. Left alone, inflows like these wash fines out of the surrounding bedding and open voids around the structure.
The repair. We injection-grouted both laterals, cutting off the active inflows at the failed boot and the upstream leak. The grouting stabilized the loose material around the penetrations and closed the pathways before open voids could develop around the manhole.
The result. Both laterals were sealed and finished clean, active infiltration was stopped, and the surrounding ground was stabilized — a small, early repair that prevented the settlement problems a failed boot eventually causes. (SG Services reference #70-15-11-2342.)
