Corridors stabilized. Traffic moving. Windows met.
Specialty Grouting Services provides road and rail crossing grouting across Ontario — targeted void filling and ground improvement beneath critical transit corridors. Roads and railways can’t close for long, so we work with rapid-setting techniques and tight staging to stabilize track slabs and road bases with minimal disruption to traffic or rail schedules.
What causes voids under roads and rail lines?
Water, almost always: leaking culverts and utility crossings washing out fines, deteriorating pipes channelling groundwater along their length, and poorly compacted trench backfill consolidating under traffic. The surface shows it last — by the time a dip or crack appears, the void below is established.
How do you repair a crossing without closing the corridor?
By working through small drill holes from the shoulder, the ditch line, or short possessions, using mixes chosen for fast strength gain. Casing and carrier pipes at crossings get annular fills, retired crossings get full abandonment grouting, and eroded bases get compaction and void filling — sequenced around your traffic control or track windows.
Can the work be verified before the corridor reopens?
Yes. We track injected volumes against expected void sizes and record placement locations and pressures, so the owner and the engineer have evidence the ground is solid before load goes back on it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Void volume, access constraints, traffic control or flagging requirements, work window length, and material selection. Night and possession work is common and priced into the plan up front.
Rapid-setting mixes are chosen for the window available — the reopening time is agreed with you before work starts, not discovered after.
We work within your flagging, permits, and possession arrangements as the specialty subcontractor. Tell us the authority’s requirements and we build the plan around them.
Yes. Leaking culverts can be sealed, lined culverts grouted in place, and abandoned culverts filled completely — one mobilization instead of three contractors.
